Advent Calendar: A Bulgarian Holiday Tradition
By Venezia Petrova & Minh Nguyen
Inspired by a holiday tradition from my (Venezia Petrova) childhood. I grew up in Bulgaria and every December before Christmas, my parents gave us a homemade Advent Calendar, which was different every year. It was an exciting time and we couldn’t wait for each day to open and see what kind of treasure, sweets or gift awaited for us that day. It was an exciting time and fantastic memories were created during the holiday season.

Bavarian Manor
By Aimee, Marcus and Matilyn Bartelle
Inspired by the creative writer, Jules Verne as a hero of the steampunk genre movement in the arts. For many artists, Verne’s fantasy worlds from: 10,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Around the World in 80 Days and Journey to the Center of the Earth create endless inspiration in a growing new genre.

Every Child’s Wish for Christmas
By Leticia Vazquez and Guadalupe Perez
Christmas is the joy for children and families around the world. “every Child’s Wish for Christmas” represents Santa planning his surprises for all the children around the world.

Every Dog Has It’s Holiday
By Earl Ammerman IV, Theresa Ammerman and Earl Ammerman III
Every Dog Has It’s Holiday – February 23rd is International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day. Every canine around the world will be wagging their tails with glee when served their favorite doggy snacks to mark the occasion.

Menorah in the Window
By Ronda Leonhardy, Ray Pope and Katie Pope
Inspired by the Festival of Lights – Lights is often a metaphor for hope and peace; many cultures around the world incorporate beauty of light into their celebrations and festivals. The menorah is a 3,000 year old Jewish symbol for hope and joy. It has been said that “a small ray of light can overcome vast darkness.”

Sizzle & Roars
By Jackie Shih
Inspired by the international pandemic we are all experiencing – It has been such a difficult year for so many people. In this unprecedented time, I hope the bright colors, whimsical characters and overall theme bring a smile to each person’s face.

Song of Isphahan
By Susan Van Wig
Inspired by the ancient, magical city of Isfahan on the high plains of modern Iran. Its turquoise and lapis lazuli domes built by the ancient Zorastrians nestle together with grand arches built about the same time as the European great cathedrals. All surrounded by a bustling modern steel and glass modern city whose inhabitants are preparing to celebrate Nowruz, the Persian New Year. The Persian New Year has survived and bent to fit within the more recent Islamic traditions.
