Epilepsy is a neurological disorder that causes people to have recurrent, unprovoked seizures.  A seizure is a sudden surge of electrical activity in the brain.  One in 26 people will develop epilepsy in their lifetime.  One leading preventable cause of epilepsy and seizures is head trauma.  Wearing helmets while riding a bicycle or other head injurt prone sports can reduce the number of new cases.

Sharon’s love for people with epilepsy lives on each year through Sharon’s Ride.Run.Walk, the nationa’s single largest epilepsy-awareness event series bringing thousands of people together.

Founded in 1995 by Drs. Rosenfeld and Lipmann to honor and continue the work of Sharon, a teacher and nurse who dedicated her life to helping people with epilepsy, and promoting helmet safety to prevent head injuries and seizures.
